Member of the Public Chamber Georgy Fedorov told MK about this. The referendum is scheduled to be held next Sunday. And social activists will have to turn into illegal immigrants for the reason that Ukraine has banned men from Russia from entering its territory.
“Our comrades and my assistants are already working there,” Fedorov said. – Yes, they take risks, but the local population supports them and does not betray them. In the coming days, several more human rights activists will go to observe the referendum. I will not mention their names or routes so as not to be disturbed.
According to Ukrainian sociologist Leonid Ilderkin, it is unlikely that it will be possible to hold a referendum: “There is a war going on there, it will not be possible to open polling stations. But if a full-fledged plebiscite had been held, the majority would have spoken in favor of independence. The mood in the southeast has changed dramatically in recent months. Its residents feel like a people expelled from Ukraine, second-class citizens who can be killed with impunity. That’s why they are afraid of Kyiv and want freedom.”
Ilderkin faces 15 years in prison. The fact is that a law was recently passed punishing communication with the Russian press and authorities with such a term, the newspaper claims.
