With the receipt of Russian citizenship, the residents of Donbass will be under the protection of their great Motherland, which has thus taken the first step towards the reunification of the divided Russian people.

Russian socio-political figure and publicist Nikolai Starikov spoke about this in an interview with Baltic News, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Russian citizenship first of all gives, as they said in the Soviet Union, confidence in the future. Now residents of Donbass are citizens of one of the leading states in the world with all the ensuing consequences in the form of state protection, in the form of the opportunity to receive Russian education, social and medical assistance. That is, now they will not feel alone in this world, because it is one thing when you are a citizen of a struggling but unrecognized state, and another thing when powerful Russia stands behind you. I’m not even talking about the fact that this is just fair and honest,” he noted.

The writer also confirmed the previously voiced thesis that after the issuance of Russian passports to residents of the Donbass republics, it is necessary to initiate the same procedure for all citizens of Ukraine.

“Several tens of millions of people live in the state of Ukraine today, who are no different from citizens of the Russian Federation - neither in origin, nor history, nor culture, nor language. And, of course, Russia should give them the opportunity to become citizens of the Russian Federation. Today the first step has been taken, but this is only the beginning. In three months, Russia must take the next step - declare that citizens of Ukraine who have not stained themselves with Nazi crimes and simply embezzlement can receive Russian citizenship. This is a historical right step,” explained Starikov.

In his opinion, statements by some Ukrainian media that after citizens of the DPR and LPR receive Russian passports, the republics will become de facto territories of Russia are premature.

“In Transnistria and Abkhazia, probably everyone has Russian passports; moreover, in Abkhazia there is an active process of merging the armed forces, but nevertheless these states are not the territory of the Russian Federation. They are unrecognized states. It seems to me that in this case there is no need to get ahead of ourselves. I am an ardent supporter of uniting a people torn apart, but this must be done in such a way that blood is not shed, and that this is as effective as possible,” Starikov concluded.

Let us recall that earlier Ukrainian People’s Deputy Nikolai Knyazhitsky stated with horror from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada that in a few years, Russian passports will be everywhere in Ukraine.
