Moscow - Simferopol, May 20 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation asks Russian automakers to start delivering cars to Crimea, since supplies from Ukraine to Crimean car dealers have been stopped, Andrei Sokolov, director of the Ministry of Economic Development department, told RBC. But Russian car importers refuse, citing the fact that Crimea is not recognized as Russian territory in the world.

In total, there are about 40 dealer centers in Crimea, says Oleg Nazarenko, general director of the All-Ukrainian Association of Automobile Importers and Dealers (VAAID). The Crimean automobile market accounts for about 4% of the market of the entire Ukraine, in 2013. 201,6 thousand cars were sold in the country, Nazarenko added.

Ukrainian importers are ready to supply cars to Crimea, he claims, but Russian customs does not allow them to enter the peninsula, citing the fact that the cars cannot be cleared through customs. The Russians say that the Ukrainians themselves stopped supplies. It is difficult to understand which of them is telling the truth.

One way or another, Crimean car dealerships are asking the Ukrainian association to introduce them to Russian importers. But the managers there are foreigners who refuse to cooperate, citing the fact that Crimea is not recognized as Russian territory in the world. Representatives of five major Russian car importers do not comment on this.

A Volkswagen representative told RBC that a letter from the Ministry of Economic Development had been received, but the company had not determined its position on this issue. The presence of the letter is confirmed by a representative of another major foreign automaker, who requested anonymity. A Renault spokesman declined to comment, while a Hyundai spokesman said the company had not received such a letter.
