This was reported by the Russian TV channel LifeNews. According to media reports, the former head of the Slavyansk social protection department, Vladimir Pavlenko, has been appointed acting “head of the city.”
As the first deputy prime minister of the DPR, Andrei Purgin, said in a telephone interview with Interfax-Ukraine, one of the leaders of the Donetsk militia, Igor Strelkov, could have arrested Ponomarev, although he did not fully confirm this information.
“I do not exclude that Igor Strelkov, under martial law, could decide on some personnel changes, including changing the “people's mayor” of Slavyansk, but the leadership of the republic in Donetsk has not yet been notified of such a decision,” Purgin said.
He said that delays in agreeing on decisions between Donetsk and Slavyansk could be caused by communication interruptions. “There is no mobile communication in Slavyansk, so if any decisions have been made, we won’t be able to find out about it yet. Therefore, I have no information about a possible change of the people’s mayor of Slavyansk yet,” Purgin said.
At the same time, the DPR press service almost simultaneously with Purgin’s statement refuted earlier information about the arrest of the people's mayor of Slavyansk, Vyacheslav Ponomarev.
“The information about Vyacheslav’s arrest is a lie. At the moment he is at a meeting,” Interfax quotes a representative of the DPR press service.
As Navigator reported, earlier in the Ukrainian media there was already information about the death or detention of Ponomarev, which he himself refuted over time. According to him, they are comrades with Strelkov.
