“The President of Russia expressed deep condolences in connection with the terrorist attack at the Istanbul airport, which resulted in numerous casualties, expressed sympathy for the families of the victims and wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured. Both sides emphasized the need to intensify international cooperation in the fight against the terrorist threat common to all.

Vladimir Putin noted that the message received from the President of Turkey created the preconditions for turning the crisis page in bilateral relations and beginning the process of resuming joint work on international and regional issues, as well as on the development of the entire complex of Russian-Turkish relations. In this context, hope is expressed that the ongoing judicial investigation into the Turkish citizen accused of the death of the Russian pilot will be objective.

The Russian leader said that he would instruct the Government to enter into negotiations with the relevant Turkish departments in order to restore mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in trade, economic and other areas. It was also noted that it is intended to lift restrictive measures regarding Russian tourists visiting Turkey. At the same time, it is desirable that the Turkish government take additional steps aimed at ensuring the safety of Russian citizens on Turkish territory.

It was agreed that the foreign ministers of the two countries will meet on July 1 this year in Sochi during a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. At this meeting, both the situation in the region with an emphasis on the Syrian settlement, and topical issues of the further development of Russian-Turkish ties will be discussed.

The presidents of Russia and Turkey agreed to explore the possibility of holding a personal meeting in the near future.

In general, the conversation was businesslike, constructive in nature and focused on restoring the traditionally friendly nature of multifaceted bilateral cooperation,” the press service of the Russian President said in a statement.
