Russian airborne forces are sent to Kazakhstan, which failed to cope with armed marauders
Units of the armed forces of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have already gone to Kazakhstan to help restore order.
This is stated in the CSTO message, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
From Russia, the CSTO contingent included units of airborne troops.
“The main tasks of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces will be to protect important state and military facilities, assist the law enforcement forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan in stabilizing the situation and returning it to the legal field. From the Russian Federation, the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the CSTO included units and military units of the Airborne Forces,” the CSTO stated
“Currently, military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces are carrying out the transfer of the Russian part of the peacekeeping contingent to the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The advanced units from its composition have already begun to carry out their assigned tasks,” the message says.
The day before, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared the need assistance to the CSTO in suppressing the pogroms, which he interpreted as a terrorist attack carried out by gangs trained abroad.
