The Russian authorities have demonstrated that the Majlis’s high-handedness has come to an end, - political scientist
Simferopol, May 19 (Navigator, Kirill Boyarin) – By limiting the holding of actions of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis on May 18 in the center of Simferopol, the Russian authorities demonstrated that the willfulness of this body has come to an end.
So says Crimean political scientist Anatoly Filatov.

“What we saw yesterday suggests that the Majlis can no longer be arbitrary and hold events wherever it pleases. I believe that the decision to postpone the rally was correct. The fact is that throughout the years of independence, the Majlis turned the event into a kind of political show, full of political demands. But such a political show should not be held on the day of remembrance and mourning.
Usually, when they mourn, they go to the graves of their loved ones, to mosques, churches, to commemorate their compatriots, loved ones, relatives, to the memorial complex, but do not organize political rallies.
As for the Majlis, it has already half given up, although it held the same meeting, only in a different place. I noticed that there were much fewer people at the rally this year than in previous years. And the main participants of the rally are local residents of the Ak-Mechet district, who live in houses built with grant money by the Crimea Foundation, which is the official name of the Mejlis. That is, it is clear that the Majlis has a certain influence on these people.
It seems to me that the Crimean Tatars themselves are gradually beginning to understand what the Majlis is and what goals it sets for itself. It is not beneficial for the Crimean Tatars to be in opposition forever. Most need to solve their life issues,” said Anatoly Filatov.
