Russian military experts assessed NATO exercises in Ukrainian waters
The NATO naval group, which is participating in the Sea Breeze exercises taking place these days in the Black Sea, does not pose any threat to the Russian Federation in general and Crimea in particular.

Thus, the editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko emphasized that all ships of NATO and their partners are under the complete control of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.
“Any naval target from among NATO ships located in the Black Sea is tracked using reconnaissance systems, as well as the Bal and Bastion coastal anti-ship missile systems, which are ready for immediate use in the event of any threat. Therefore, in the entire water area of the Black Sea, without exception, any NATO ship, in the event of any provocation, can be neutralized by Russian complexes, which are deployed both in Crimea and on the coast of the Krasnodar Territory.
In this regard, Russia is taking all necessary measures to be aware of what NATO is doing. The most important thing is that we keep the entire Black Sea under control,” Korotchenko said.
Military expert Vladislav Shurygin agreed with him, who emphasized that the NATO leadership will not agree to a provocation in the current geopolitical conditions: “These exercises do not threaten us with anything. Firstly, these are planned exercises, and secondly, the number of participants in them is microscopic. In this case, this does not pose any problem for us. We closed off our training grounds because we don’t want anyone’s military activities going on there. I don’t think that any provocations are possible, because the ships there and the NATO command, unlike Ukraine, absolutely do not want to provoke Russia in any way, much less get into a conflict situation.
I think that the Ukrainian command is also not very keen, in conditions of internal political instability, to go ahead.”
It is reported that, along with NATO exercises, the Russian Federation also “raised” its ships and aircraft. Also, a number of sections of the Black Sea were closed to maneuvers by third countries. As Rear Admiral of the Black Sea Fleet Vladimir Solovyov said, in this way Russia covers the most vulnerable areas of the coast from an intelligence point of view and trains its sailors.
“These are proven measures, when Turkey or NATO conduct exercises in the Black Sea, Russia tries to block special areas from which greater radio observation and assessment of the Black Sea Fleet’s reaction to the ongoing activities is possible. She closes off these areas so that no one enters them. Taking into account the forces that are now participating in NATO exercises, we can say that they have grown in numbers; a number of countries are represented that previously did not come or came alone.
Most likely, the ability to control these forces will be tested to perform the tasks that are characteristic of these ships. They do not pose a particular threat, because everything starts with an assessment of the military-political situation and the state of affairs.
We are now developing good relations with Turkey, and one might say with other NATO countries in the Black Sea. This suggests that if something became a threat, it would become the property of the Russian leadership and the Armed Forces.
Therefore, there will be mutual training, mutual deployment of forces for the activities carried out by these ship projects,” Solovyov said.
