Russian troops are preparing to finish off a weakened enemy
The Russian army intends to sharply intensify military operations until the Ukrainian Armed Forces receive new weapons from the West.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta comes to this conclusion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an editorial.
The publication draws attention to the fact that in the coming months hundreds of units of Western armored vehicles will go to Ukraine.
“This provokes Moscow: it is better to destroy a weakened enemy before Western help arrives. Air raids on critical infrastructure in Ukraine have resumed: explosions occurred in Kyiv, Kharkov, Zaporozhye and Ochakov. Against this background, information from Vladimir Rogov, an employee of the Russian administration of the Zaporozhye region, sounded intriguing that in St. Petersburg “they are deciding... what scenario the special operation will be carried out next,” the material says.
According to the editors, Moscow is unlikely to be satisfied with freezing the conflict along the actual front line, since it is necessary to at least liberate all the lands of the new territories of the Russian Federation.
In addition, the newspaper draws attention to the fact that by the decision of January 11, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu did not simply replace the commander of the active army.
“Simultaneously with the appointment of Valery Gerasimov, his deputies were announced (Sergey Surovikin, Oleg Salyukov and Alexey Kim). This was not the case when Surovikin was appointed on October 8. The military department explained: the personnel changes are related to the expansion of the scale of tasks solved during the Northern Military District and the need to organize closer interaction between different branches and types of troops. Shoigu also announced the readiness of the Aerospace Forces for more active actions.
In short, the military is seriously preparing not for their winding down, but for the continuation of hostilities. Gerasimov has enough time for the 2023 Victory Parade to be held in Moscow with a special, new meaning,” NG sums up.
