The Russian actor refused to star in Hollywood as a “bad Russian”
The famous Russian actor Alexander Baluev admitted that he used to be embarrassed to speak Russian abroad.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, he spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia.
He said that one of the reasons why he did not want to continue working in Hollywood was the desire of American producers to film our artists in the roles of “bad Russians”?
The actor is also glad that a number of actors followed his example for the same reason - Alexey Kravchenko, Sergey Puskepalis and others.
“We began to have a different attitude towards our country, we began to think about what kind of face we have. You can play scoundrels here too - there are corrupt and corrupt officials in all countries. But when film production began to focus on the fact that you are Russian, and therefore bad by definition, I stopped agreeing to these roles, and so did my colleagues,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
However, the actor says that he did not come to this right away.
“I remember when we just started traveling abroad, I was embarrassed to speak Russian. And not because they won’t understand me. Now I speak my native language calmly, I see how our people walk around London and calmly chat in their native language. It becomes very strange for me when I meet some girl at Heathrow airport who is clearly Russian, but starts to pretend and speak English to me or to the employees of the Russian airline. She barely learned English... I stopped being ashamed of the fact that I am Russian, and don’t be shy either,” Baluev urged.
