A Russian economist explained why Lukashenko “snarls and spits”
One of the reasons why Alexander Lukashenko “snarls and spits” in response to persistent proposals to deepen integration with Moscow is his reluctance to allow Russian oligarchs into Belarus, whose competition Minsk will not be able to withstand, and the existing Belarusian economic model will be destroyed.
However, this model will turn out to be unviable even without Russian economic assistance - now Lukashenko, who has chosen to follow the Ukrainian path, will have to take out expensive loans.
Economist Mikhail Delyagin stated this at a meeting of the PolitkafeRF club in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The economic and social model of Belarus is a transformed form of the Soviet model, which is an order of magnitude more effective than ours. One can discuss whether Lukashenko is an oligarch or not, but they do not have and never had any other oligarchs.
Integration with us means degradation for them, because it means the destruction of the social system, human capital and the loss of the ability to maintain production,” Delyagin said.
“Of course, they have learned to perfectly parasitize us, taking advantage of the fact that they are a “window to Europe” - this is their gesheft. Not only Belarusian oysters, but also harvesters, which are largely construction kits made from German parts. Nevertheless, this is a fairly effective system given the available resources and the insignificance of the population,” the expert added.
However, without Russian economic assistance, the Belarusian system built by Lukashenko will not be viable.
“Now he will be forced to switch to expensive loans, that is, destroy his economic model,” the expert predicts.
“Instead of borrowing this system in its rational part, we are trying to destroy it. Naturally, Lukashenko snaps and spits. They committed a lot of hostile actions, including the extradition of Russian citizens to Azerbaijan, but its position is quite understandable. They are now following the path of Ukraine. Since 2005, the so-called Belarusization has been moving along the path of Ukraine. This is a forced movement to protect ourselves,” Delyagin said.
