A victory in the second round of elections in Ukraine for incumbent President Petro Poroshenko will be more beneficial for Russia, since subsequent protests could worsen the split in Ukrainian society and provoke the secession of the South-East with subsequent entry into the Russian Federation.

This opinion was expressed on the YouTube channel “Independent Studio” by Nikolai Platoshkin, head of the department of international relations and diplomacy at Moscow Humanitarian University, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

“We have now started to bullshit that “Zelensky will come, we are ready to negotiate with him.” What are the negotiations about when the same Zelensky said: “My negotiations with Putin are the return of Crimea and also compensation.” Moreover, Zelensky says that the negotiations will be held in the presence of Western representatives. Worse, if he wins, he will mock Ukraine for another year,” Platoshkin said.

“...It’s better for us now that Poroshenko wins with a small margin. Nobody recognizes these elections: Zelensky doesn’t give a damn, Yulia Tymoshenko doesn’t recognize them, and someone else doesn’t recognize them. They will bring people into the streets against Poroshenko, and then Ukraine will naturally begin to fall apart along the Dnieper, because in all elections, including these, the Trans-Dnieper and Left Bank regions have always voted differently. This is an artificial country that was molded at one time so that it would somehow exist.

The entire South-East, both this time and then, everyone voted against this course. Therefore, I believe that people there are ripe for unification with Russia according to the Crimean option. It’s just that everyone is tired of this nightmare,” says the Moscow expert.

“The same thing happened in February 2014, the same protests against Yanukovych. Yanukovych honestly said: “Let’s hold elections in a year.” Seems to be OK. First, Western Ukraine rebels - the seizure of administrations, the seizure of regional police departments, the seizure of weapons. After that they win, Yanukovych leaves, but the South-East - Crimea and Donbass - rebels against those who came to power. If Russia had shown courage then, the entire East of Ukraine would have gone to us absolutely bloodlessly.

Here is an example: in Crimea we showed courage. How many people died in Crimea? Not at all. In the Donbass, where there was de facto independence for a month, the DPR and LPR existed for about the entire month of April, formally independently, until the Ukrainians brought up troops and began to hammer. We tell them (LDNR - approx. ed.) did not help - 10 thousand corpses, 4 million refugees, first of all. There is no end in sight to this crisis. So which is better? Indecision, which leads to war, crisis and massive economic losses for Russia, or such actions? – summarized Platoshkin.
