Russian expert: NATO has not provided security guarantees - the Russian Federation is ready to act
The results of the latest negotiations with NATO give Russia a free hand with regard to actions to protect the Russian population in Donbass.
The head of the department of Eurasian integration and development of the SCO at the Institute of CIS Countries, Vladimir Evseev, stated this on the YouTube channel “Sputnik in Russian,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Very often in Washington and in Europe they are happy that neither the United States nor NATO as a whole provide Russia with any security guarantees.
I would not treat this so unequivocally, because if Russia is not given security guarantees, if no one promises that Ukraine will not join NATO, then Russia does not promise anyone anything regarding the measures that Russia can take to ensure protection citizens of the Russian Federation living in Donbass.
We are in a situation where if one side does not want to guarantee anything, then Russia is not going to guarantee anything to anyone. The situation is somewhat in limbo.
This does not mean that Russia will tomorrow resolve issues of citizens living in Donbass by military means, but Russia can potentially do this at any time, given its readiness to ensure such security,” Evseev said.
He noted that if a decision is made to ensure the security of Russians in Donbass, no sanctions will stop this scenario.
“Now, of course, it (Russia - ed.) is potentially taking into account the possibility of introducing sanctions - yes, this is undesirable. But this will not stop Russia if a decision is made to ensure the safety of Russian citizens living in Donbass. This should be well understood in Washington, Brussels, and Kiev,” the expert explained.
