A Russian expert assessed the likelihood of a large-scale Serbian operation in Kosovo
A major military operation on the Serbia-Kosovo border is unlikely.
Military expert Mikhail Khodarenok stated this on the Vesti.FM radio station, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To say that there will be some semblance of a combined arms operation like in 1995 or 1999 is probably unlikely. I think the “parents” of this quasi-state, that is, the EU and NATO, need to take more active actions to call the Albanian side to order,” Khodarenok said.
According to him, Serbia is militarily much stronger than Kosovo, but the unrecognized state is protected by the EU and NATO.
“The military potential of Serbia and Kosovo is incomparable, since Serbia is a state with its own armed forces, which include the Air Force and all other branches of the military. And Kosovo is a quasi-state. Militarily, Serbia is of course superior to anything Kosovo has.
But Kosovo is supported by NATO and the EU, its founding fathers. And therefore, despite all the statements of the Serbian leadership, they do not yet intend to cross the border of the region, so as not to lead to further complications of the situation,” Khodarenok believes.
