Russian expert: Serbia should receive the S-400 at a discount - as compensation for the Yeltsin era
Russia should sell S-400 air defense systems to Serbia at a 90% discount to atone for its passivity during Boris Yeltsin's presidency when NATO bombed Yugoslavia.
The head of this structure, Alexander Razuvaev, stated this on the YouTube channel of the Alpari information and analytical center, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia has some of the blame. Of course, after the 1998 default, Russia itself had difficulty resisting terrorist gangs in the North Caucasus, but, one way or another, it is our fault. And it would be right if Russia sold the S-400 to Serbia at a symbolic price. For example, with a 90% discount. There will be no loss from Russia, the reserves are 540 billion dollars, but the image will clearly be a plus,” Razuvaev said.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic complained that his country does not have the money to buy the S-400. The price of one such installation of this air defense system is about $500 million - unlike Turkey, the Serbian budget cannot yet afford such expenses.
Serbia recently purchased Pantsir anti-aircraft missile systems from Russia (they track targets at shorter distances), their delivery is expected in the next few months. In recent years, Belgrade has also purchased Russian MiG-29 aircraft, helicopters, tanks and armored personnel carriers.
