Alexey Mukhin, General Director of the Center for Political Information, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“The Americans needed a small victorious war three weeks before the elections. We now view the situation in Mosul as an attempt by the United States to prove its military superiority in the region. We'll see how this ends. But the coordination of actions between ISIS and the United States gives rise to alarming thoughts. Because ISIS will now move to the Syrian borders to create difficulties for Bashar al-Assad. It’s very difficult to hide this fact,” said Mukhin.
The US-led coalition today launched an offensive against the largest city under ISIS control - Mosul, Iraq, with a population of two million. The ground operation involves the Iraqi military, Shiite militias, Christian volunteers, Kurdish Peshmerga forces and a limited contingent of US troops. They will be supported from the air and in the rear by countries participating in the Western coalition against the Islamic State. Humanitarian organizations predict up to a million refugees.
