“This morning, the personnel of the military command and control bodies of the Baltic Fleet, ships and naval aviation, as well as a number of formations and military units of the coastal forces of the fleet were alerted as part of the launched joint Russian-Belarusian operational exercise “Union Shield - 2015,” the message says. .
It is noted that at present, units of the Russian coastal troops with military equipment and weapons are moving to the areas where columns are formed, after which they will need to make multi-kilometer marches in a combined manner to training grounds in the Kaliningrad region to conduct tactical actions.
It is noted that the military personnel will practice repelling an attack by a mock enemy, navigating in an unfamiliar area and life support issues at rest stops, overcoming contaminated areas of the terrain, repelling attacks by sabotage and reconnaissance groups and air strikes. The exercises will be held with the support of naval aviation aircraft and helicopters.
Later, the military personnel will perform practical combat missions at the training grounds, including firing from all types of standard weapons. Aviation will carry out bombing and assault strikes from the air and carry out fire support missions for naval strike groups and units of the coastal forces of the Russian Baltic Fleet from the air.
It is also reported that the crews of the ships of the Baltic Fleet have begun preparations for going to sea. After receiving the command, they will leave their permanent bases and go to the designated area of the Baltic Sea to carry out tactical tasks as directed by the high command.
In total, the exercises involve up to 20 warships, boats and support vessels, more than 10 aircraft and helicopters and more than 1,5 thousand military personnel and about 200 units of military and special equipment.
