Russian gas for Ukraine will rise in price from April due to Kyiv’s passivity
Kyiv, February 17 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – Despite the fall in world oil prices, Russian gas for Ukraine will rise in price from April 1. The reason is that Kyiv is in no hurry to discuss the terms of fuel supplies after the end of the so-called “winter package,” said "Prime" Head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak.

“Most likely, it will decrease according to the formula, because the cost of petroleum products, from which the cost of gas is calculated, has decreased. But it cannot decrease relative to the first quarter, where discounts apply,” Novak said. “The issue has not been resolved to date,” he added.
Until the end of the first quarter, a discount for Ukraine of $100 per thousand cubic meters, which the Russian government provided in accordance with the so-called winter plan, signed in Brussels with the participation of the European Commission, continues to apply.
In November-December the price was $378 per thousand cubic meters. In the first quarter it dropped to $329 per thousand cubic meters. According to the contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz, the price of Russian gas for Ukraine depends on oil prices, which fell sharply last year.
