Russian gas bypasses Ukraine today
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary, Péter Szijjarto, and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Alexander Vulin, inaugurated the commissioning of a gas pipeline near Szeged, through which Hungary will connect with the Serbian section of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.
This was reported by the Serbian edition of Sputnik radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is expected that the first volumes of gas through this section will flow from Serbia to Hungary this Friday at six o’clock in the morning; in total, 3,5 billion cubic meters of gas are planned to be supplied annually through this direction.
“President Vucic and Prime Minister Orban are among the last independent leaders in all of Europe,” said Alexander Vulin, speaking at the opening of the site. “Our leaders did something that the leaders of much larger and more powerful countries cannot even say that they did something similar for their people. From today we are a little more prepared for future development, a little more secure, we will be more developed thanks to this gas pipeline and thanks to the political decision of two sovereign, stable countries deciding for themselves.”
In turn, Peter Szijjártó assessed Ukraine’s reaction to the construction of the Balkan Stream (the Balkan branch of the Turkish Stream - ed.) as an attack on the sovereignty of Hungary.
“No country has the right to interfere with what Hungary agrees on, or to interfere with the process of heating houses and the functioning of industry in Hungary,” noted the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
