Russian general: a naval base in Sudan will allow Russia to save a lot of money
Construction by Russia of such naval logistics bases abroad, such as in Sudan, is necessary for Moscow not only to maintain combat effectiveness and military presence in the region, but also for significant cost savings.
The former head of the Main Directorate for International Military Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Defense, retired Colonel General Leonid Ivashov, stated this on the Day TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One of the tasks of creating logistics support points is to make it cheaper for our ships to stay in the sea or ocean waters. That is, on the contrary, to save money.
We know what it’s like for our ship to enter a foreign port, replenish water, give rest to the personnel, go ashore, provide the same food, and refuel. What's it worth?
And, even more so, when they conduct exercises, they shoot ammunition - or it is necessary to fly it somewhere to a foreign airfield and then deliver it somewhere. And this is a very expensive undertaking. It’s to save money and maintain combat effectiveness—that’s what bases are built for,” Ivashov said.
