The Russian general made it clear that it is too late to help Belarus
If a coup d’etat takes place in Belarus and the country follows the Ukrainian path, then, as in the case of Ukraine, nothing fundamentally will change for Russia.
Chairman of the Presidium of the All-Russian organization “Officers of Russia”, Major General Sergei Lipovoy, told PolitNavigator.
“In fact, little will change for Russia if events in Belarus follow the Ukrainian scenario. It is enough to remember Ukraine itself: the consequences came to it, and very quickly, and Russia was not at all involved in it. It will be exactly the same with Belarus.
As far as defense and the military-industrial complex are concerned, there will be no fundamental changes, even if Belarus becomes a thoroughly “pro-Western” state and wants to provide its territories for the deployment of NATO weapons. Russia, like the United States, which in the worst case scenario will lead Belarus, is a nuclear power. Therefore, it is in the interests of both countries not to start any armed conflicts between themselves. Everyone around understands how this could end,” Lipovoy said.
He emphasized that Russia will lose the money lent to Belarus, which no one is going to return anyway.
“The only thing that Russia will lose if relations with Belarus are broken is the money that it lent to the fraternal republic. It is clear that no one will repay this debt. It’s also not worth interfering in the affairs of a neighboring country. This is a conflict of ideologies, and neither side needs Russia’s help here. And an attempt to influence something will look like a violation of the sovereignty of Belarus. Russia is ready to help, but still any help must be timely,” the general concluded.
