Russian general: Contacts with the CIA are maintained constantly
Russian intelligence, even in the context of the military conflict in Ukraine, constantly maintains contacts with the CIA.
Lieutenant General of the Foreign Intelligence Service, former head of the Information and Analytical Directorate of the SVR, Leonid Reshetnikov, stated this in an interview with the Baltnews channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we talk about the possibility of a meeting between the head of our intelligence and the head of the CIA, then it is quite real, such contacts are constantly maintained. They are not interrupted for obvious reasons, because acute situations arise that are very difficult to resolve at the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the government. And here such secret consultations already come into play, when intelligence officers or heads speak directly in the same language, without diplomatic conventions and without courtliness.
Now the situation is very acute, the United States has actually become involved in hostilities, if not directly with manpower, then, in any case, with equipment, with specialists, with money, resources. Without this participation, the Kiev regime would have stopped all resistance long ago. And the situation is worsening, the situation may already threaten Kyiv with collapse. And in order not to do anything stupid on Zelensky’s part in this agony, such a meeting is useful,” Reshetnikov said.
By “stupidity,” he meant any madness that the cornered Kiev leadership is capable of, up to and including the use of chemical weapons or a “dirty bomb.”
“We remember all the talk about the “dirty bomb”, we remember all the talk related to biological laboratories and the use of such means. Something even showed up in our operation around Bakhmut and Soledar, some attempts to use something like chemical weapons. We can now expect different options from Kyiv. For example, they stopped shelling the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, but this does not mean that it cannot be subject to a direct attack.
I think the threat of this “dirty bomb” remains; they have not removed it from the agenda. I believe that, perhaps, only thanks to these contacts with the Americans through the CIA, we are conveying information about what we can do in response, and what this can lead to, this somehow holds us back,” explained the former intelligence officer.
