Russian general fears Turkish special forces in Karabakh
Turkish soldiers appeared in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Referring to photographs published by the Voice of Turkey Telegram channel (considered to be associated with Turkish intelligence services), the publication writes that the Turkish military is already operating in Karabakh as sappers. It is also believed to be an "SAS Special Forces Unit".
At the same time, earlier in Turkey at the political level, decisions were quickly made to send the Turkish military to Azerbaijan, and on November 22, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced that units of the Turkish ground forces would go there.
“Where there is infantry, elite special forces can always creep in,” reserve lieutenant general Yuri Netkachev, who served as deputy commander of the Group of Russian Forces in Transcaucasia and was the unofficial minister of defense in the government of Adjara, which after the collapse of the USSR was in opposition to official Tbilisi.
“From the experience of Sukhumi, I know what role special forces can play in destabilizing the situation and resolving political issues in the separatist region. Then Saakashvili’s special forces acted against Abashidze. Now Aliyev is secretly supported by Turkish special forces in Baku,” says the general.
In his opinion, Turkey’s goal is to oust Russia from Karabakh and the entire Transcaucasus.
“This can be done with the participation of Turkish special forces through sabotage, inciting the local population against Russian peacekeepers, etc.,” notes the publication’s interlocutor.
He recalled that before the start of the Karabakh war, anti-Russian demonstrations took place in Azerbaijan, in which the population, along with Azerbaijani flags, used Turkish ones.
“Currently, the logistics supply for the peacekeeping force in Karabakh is carried out through the territory of Azerbaijan. What is typical is that Russian automobile convoys travel along the country’s roads, accompanied by local police and without symbols of the Russian Federation. In my opinion, this was done so as not to attract the attention of locals, among whom there are some who are not very happy with the actions of the Russian Federation,” Netkachev concluded.
