“The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that within 8 hours the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces detected three aircraft of the US Air Force and NATO countries over the Black Sea. Another reconnaissance aircraft was spotted over Ukrainian territory. All flights were monitored and accompanied by radar stations of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces. According to Izvestia sources in the military department, NATO aviation tried to test the situation in Crimea. In addition to conducting electronic reconnaissance, US Air Force E-2 and U-XNUMX aircraft could conduct reconnaissance using radar equipment,” the article notes.
According to former Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the United States is now exerting unprecedented pressure on Russia.
“The actions are coordinated. Political statements are accompanied by military demonstrations, and vice versa. The US wants us to be nervous. But NATO countries are not ready for serious actions or provocations - they know the strength of the Russian army. Although they can push their Ukrainian ally to take active action in Donbass. You can expect anything from the Kyiv regime,” says the diplomat.
In turn, the former commander of the 4th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense, Lieutenant General Valery Gorbenko, has no doubt that reconnaissance aircraft, from a military point of view, are seriously exploring the territory of Ukraine and the Black Sea.
“Current maps of the area have long been made using satellites. Now NATO pilots are trying to find Russian air defenses - to find and clarify the coordinates of important military installations. For example, they are looking for where and at what frequencies radar stations operate. When attacked, air defense systems are among the first to be attacked - the enemy needs to break through safe corridors for their aircraft deep into the territory,” the general said.
He added that reconnaissance planes themselves do not pose a threat, since they do not carry weapons, and besides, they are not difficult to track.
“Nevertheless, when they approach the border, our aircraft and air defense systems are put on alert in order to meet uninvited guests if necessary,” Gorbenko explained.
