The scale of the flood caused by the destruction of the hydroelectric power station in Novaya Kakhovka is growing.

As evidenced by videos on social networks, the city is covered with water, and residential buildings are floating downstream of the Dnieper, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Ukraine traditionally blames Russia for what happened. However, in Ukrainian social networks last year they rejoiced at the strikes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Kakhovka Dam.

The Kiev TG-channel “Resident” told what Kyiv is trying to achieve with false information about the involvement of Russians in the bombing.

“Our source in the OP said that the Office of the President instructed all its LOM and TG channels to disperse the narrative about the special bombing of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by the Russians. At Bankova they want to achieve two goals: firstly, to shift responsibility from the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the shelling of hydroelectric power plants that damaged the structure, and secondly, to create the image of a terrorist from Russia. Old videos of HIMARS strikes are being deliberately released online to show the deliberate undermining of the dam,” Resident notes.

It is noteworthy that the American newspaper The Washington Post previously wrote that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was thinking about destroying the Kakhovka dam.

“...Major General of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Kovalchuk thought about flooding the river. The Ukrainians, he said, even carried out a test strike from HIMARS on one of the gateways of the Novokakhovskaya dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the water of the Dnieper could rise enough to block Russian crossings, but not flood nearby areas and villages.

The test was successful, Kovalchuk said..." stated in the publication newspapers.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called the incident a Ukrainian act of sabotage.

“Here we can already unequivocally state that we are talking about deliberate sabotage by the Ukrainian side,” he told reporters today.

According to him, the reason for the sabotage was Ukrainian failures at the front.

“Apparently, this sabotage is also connected with the fact that, having launched large-scale offensive operations two days ago, the Ukrainian armed forces are now not achieving their goals. These offensive actions are choking,” Peskov added.

The Ukrainian military command believes that the destruction of the hydroelectric power station will not affect the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counteroffensive plans.

“As for obstructing our offensive actions, the military command fully took into account such hostile insidious actions, and accordingly it should not harm our offensive in those directions where there may be a water spill,” said Lieutenant General Sergei Naev, commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Military observer Boris Rozhin writes that the advanced detachments of the Russian Armed Forces operating on the islands in the Kherson region are being withdrawn, as well as the DRG of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“It is still unclear how badly all these islands will be flooded, so the precautions are completely logical. Our main positions were built in advance in the depths of the territory (taking into account the possible undermining of the APU of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station, which was discussed even during the departure from Kherson), and not on the shore, so that they would not suffer much.

Here the calculations of our staff officers were completely justified. Let me remind you that last year they were criticized for building their main positions in the interior of the territory, and not on the coast itself. If they had secured themselves as close to the shore as possible, then now part of these efforts would have gone down the drain.

But part of the forefield and minefields will obviously be damaged, so additional measures will have to be taken to equip the area for defense after the water flow has stabilized and it is clear about potential areas where the enemy may try to drop DRGs. But these are solvable tasks, although they will require additional time and resources,” writes Rozhin.
