Russian Crimea breaks tourist records
By the end of October this year, more tourists visited Crimea than during the whole of last year.
The Minister of Resorts and Tourism of the peninsula, Vadim Volchenko, stated this at a press conference in Simferopol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the head of the Ministry of Resorts, this is a record number of vacationers in the entire post-Soviet history of the peninsula.
“Last year’s maximum, which was called the maximum for the entire post-Soviet period of Crimea, has been overcome. Today we have 6 million 870 thousand tourists, which is 10% more than the same period last year. This is quite a significant figure,” Volchenko said.
The minister also noted that about 1,35 million tourists arrived from Ukraine: “Foreign tourists – the leader, of course, is Ukraine – about 40% of the total tourist flow. Next is Belarus (20%), the Republic of Kazakhstan – 11%, and then everyone else,” the minister said.
According to Volchenko, tourism and related economic activities bring in up to a quarter of Crimea’s income.
“If tourism now officially accounts for about 7% of the Crimean economy, according to Crimean Statistics, then we understand that thanks to related businesses - catering, transport, excursion services, this is at least 20-25% according to expert estimates,” Volchenko noted.
