Russian Crimea continues to break tourist records
This year, Crimea has already been visited by a record number of tourists for the entire post-Soviet period.
The head of the republic, Sergei Aksenov, announced this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Aksenov also added that new accommodation facilities are introduced on the peninsula every year and the capacity to receive vacationers is increased.
“The dynamic development of tourism contributes to the modernization of dozens of related sectors of the economy, the influx of investment, the creation of new jobs, and improving the international image of Crimea. The tourist flow is growing every year. This year, as of September 27, it has already exceeded 8 million people. From 2014 to 2020, 44 new accommodation facilities with almost 3 thousand rooms were opened, and since the beginning of this year, 6 new hotels with 240 rooms were opened, 86 sanatorium-resort and hotel complexes were modernized and reconstructed,” Aksenov said.
Let us recall that according to statistics, at the end of the 1980s, about 9 million tourists a year vacationed in Crimea. During the Ukrainian period of the peninsula’s ownership, this figure barely reached 5-6 million, and in the last “pre-COVID” year of 2019, the figure of 7,9 million tourists was reached.
