A Russian liberal explained to Ukrainians why the Russian Federation is distributing passports to the LDPR
Since the LDPR cannot fundamentally change the result of the all-Russian elections, Russian passports in Donbass are distributed, first of all, to protect residents of the region from Ukraine.
Russian liberal political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky said this on the YouTube channel “Politeka,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The votes of residents of certain areas of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions were not of fundamental importance for the elections, except for one region - the Rostov region. There, yes, indeed, these votes strengthened the position of United Russia, although United Russia would have won anyway,” Belkovsky said.
He emphasized that Russian passports in Donbass are not being distributed to receive any dividends in the elections, but to protect residents of the region from a possible repetition of Ukrainian aggression.
“And passports are being distributed not because of the Duma elections, you must admit, with 100 million voters, 150 thousand passports are a grain of sand, but in order to prevent the development of events in Ukraine according to the Karabakh scenario in 2020.
If the Ukrainian Armed Forces go on the offensive in certain regions of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, citing the fact that this is Ukrainian territory legally recognized by the whole world, then, under the pretext of protecting its citizens, Russia may send in its troops,” the political scientist added.
