“If this is a reproach for the reluctance to interact through the military, then it should be addressed not to Russia, but to the West, which has blocked military cooperation, including the exchange of information with Moscow, in almost all areas. At the same time, the Russian side has been talking all this time about the need to maintain contacts along the military line, at least on emergency issues. At the same time, Washington and a number of forces in the American establishment still deny such interaction as a fact,” Zakharova wrote.
Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking in Yekaterinburg, accused the West of double standards in assessing the situation in the Middle East.
“For example, the humanitarian crisis in Syria occupies a central place in the political rhetoric of Western statesmen, but the humanitarian situation in Yemen is carefully ignored. There is something to think about and how to make sure that approaches to the Libyan, Yemen, and Iraqi crises are based on a solid foundation of common standards, at the center of which is the absolute priority of eradicating terrorism,” Lavrov emphasized.
The criticized German minister believes that Russia has a special responsibility in the Syrian province of Aleppo.
“The residents of Aleppo find themselves in unbearable conditions. The weapons must be silenced so that the population can be provided with everything they need. When the period of post-crisis reconstruction in Syria begins, it is Germany and Russia that must work together, whether in Palmyra, Aleppo or Homs,” Steinmeier said.
He said that the German side had developed the “Hour Zero” project, in which it concentrated forces and resources in this area, and invited Russia to join cooperation in the implementation of this project.
