The Russian ombudsman wants to visit 34 political prisoners in Ukraine
The Russian and Ukrainian ombudsmen, on the principles of reciprocity, will each visit 34 prisoners in Russia and Ukraine, respectively. Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova announced this today in the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
“Most of the prisoners have Russian citizenship, but Ukraine considers them its citizens. This is the problem,” Moskalkova said.
She especially emphasized that she intends to visit the editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti-Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, in the Kherson pre-trial detention center.
“The fate of Kirill Vyshinsky is of great concern. At my request, the Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova visited him. He is kept in a cell with 5 other people. The conditions there are quite good: there is hot water, a shower, and a separate toilet. There is a lawyer who helps him. Today I ask you to allow me to visit Vyshinsky to verify his state of health and help legally protect his rights and freedoms,” Moskalkova said.
