This was stated by former adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian oppositionist and economist Andrei Illarionov on the air of the 112 Ukraine TV channel.

“In light of Donald Trump's published interview with The Times and Bild newspaper, in which Trump clearly said that he proposes to lift sanctions against Russia in exchange for a nuclear disarmament program. Thus, Biden’s promise, even if made from the bottom of his heart, even sincerely, even if completely fair from the point of view of logic, unfortunately, is not confirmed by the statements that President-elect Trump is now making,” he said.

Illarionov added that despite all the statements and additional information about Trump’s connections with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the consistent position of the president-elect remains his statement of intention to establish good relations with the Kremlin.

“On all other issues he exhibits one degree or another of hesitation. Even his famous wall on the border with Mexico is starting to be discussed. In the last interview he said nothing about China, which is also significant. He once again expressed his special attitude towards the Kremlin and Putin,” he noted.

Illarionov predicted that Ukraine would face a very difficult situation in the coming months.

“Trump will undoubtedly do everything possible to reach an agreement with the Kremlin. Moreover, he has already stated in advance and once again confirmed the price that he is willing to pay - the lifting of sanctions from Russia. And most of them were introduced for the annexation of Crimea, the occupation of Donbass, for waging war against Ukraine... Thus, he is ready to exchange what little the Barack Obama administration did in defense of Ukraine for ephemeral hopes with the Kremlin,” he added.

The economist suggested that Trump's wild swings in position on nuclear weapons indicate that he has no understanding of their role in modern relations.

“But in fact, the aggressor will only strengthen his position... This is one of Putin’s favorite tricks, and, apparently, this proposal was thrown from the Kremlin to Trump, which he easily swallowed. And judging by how quickly he changed his position, it seems that no one on Trump’s team, nor he himself, could reach this idea. Obviously, he was advised by the Kremlin. The speed with which he embraced this idea and the persistence with which he denied the existence of incriminating materials in the Kremlin, frankly, speaks better than any incriminating materials themselves about the real connection between the Kremlin and the new US president,” he emphasized. .

Illarionov added that Putin is “incomparably stronger than Trump” in political experience.

“The result of the meeting between Putin and Trump, whenever it happens, will undoubtedly be a victory for Putin. And specific results will depend only on what Putin wants to get. How much does he want to get at once? This is obvious,” he emphasized.

The Russian oppositionist noted that he sees the decision to ease sanctions as “almost a foregone conclusion.”

“Crimea will not be discussed at all,” he concluded.

Let us recall that earlier the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that a meeting between Putin and Trump is possible no earlier than Trump takes office as President of the United States.
