A Russian politician explained in Minsk what a real union is
Citizens of Russia and Belarus must demand the creation of not a declarative, but a real Union State.
Former Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Sergei Baburin stated this at a press conference in Minsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Everything is there, we need the political will of two presidents. Until changes are made to the Constitutions of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, there will be no union state. This can be done either through amendments or through the adoption of a constitutional act. This is an inevitable step,” Baburin said.
In his opinion, civil society should also have its say in the creation of the Union State.
“When will ordinary people start saying: we have been promised union citizenship for 20 years, but where is the passport confirming that a resident of Belarus has any rights as a citizen on the territory of the Russian Federation? In the field of education, employment, any border and customs situations. Where is the opportunity for all graduates of Belarusian schools to enter Russian universities without additional conditions and vice versa?” - said Baburin.
