Russian political scientist: Now we’ll understand whether Trump is a sucker or not
The situation around the aggravation on the front in Donbass will demonstrate whether the new US President Donald Trump will “fall for” the Ukrainian provocation, or will take joint actions with Russia to put pressure on Kyiv.
This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by Russian political scientist Oleg Matveychev.

“The reason is the same - to destroy the emerging dialogue between Russia and the United States, to again present Russia as an aggressor, to make it impossible for Trump to support Russia in conditions where it is allegedly aggressive, and so on. They provoke us to respond. Accordingly, as soon as there are retaliatory actions, territorial losses for the Ukrainian militants, then, accordingly, this will be considered as the very aggression that they ultimately need.
Russia, generally speaking, can capture the whole of Ukraine in two days, but the point is not what it can, but how expedient it is, and what to do with it all then.
Everything will be decided “at the top” by Putin and Trump. They would, by and large, need to talk again on the phone, explain themselves, and resolve this issue of further action.
In general, understand: Trump is a sucker or not a sucker. If it is carried out on this whole Kyiv story, then this is one thing, if it is not carried out and everyone clearly understands that they are trying to manipulate him, then this is a different story, and then joint actions can be taken to put pressure on Kyiv.
Contact at the highest level is necessary, and there needs to be a full understanding of how firm the position of the American side is, whether they are amenable to Kyiv’s tricks or not,” argues Matveychev.
