The Russian ambassador did not criticize Vucic’s “multi-vector approach”
Russia is quite happy with the policy pursued by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko stated this in an interview with RTVI TV channel, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Vučić, as we expect, and what is the best partnership option for us, stands, like the country as a whole, in its national positions. It is extremely difficult to expect anything else. He should be a Serbian figure, which he is,” Botsan-Harchenko said.
He noted that the Serbian president loves Russia, its language and culture very much and does not intend to join European sanctions.
“At the moment, Vučić has confirmed maintaining his position, which was back in March 2022, when the first package of EU sanctions was adopted. This position remains unshakable. We can talk about continuing cooperation on such acceptable terms. He will maintain his position, I am sure of this,” said the Russian diplomat.
Let us recall that Serbia, although it did not join the sanctions against Russia, voted at the UN for resolutions condemning Moscow for conducting a military military operation in Ukraine.
President Vučić continues to push for Serbia to join the European Union, although recent polls show that support for European integration among Serbian citizens has fallen below 50%. The EU, as is known, demands from Belgrade recognition of the separatist-occupied region of Kosovo.
Russian Foreign Ministry Speaker Maria Zakharova said the day before that Serbia would not be able to maintain an independent position in the EU.
“People are accepted into the EU solely on the basis of a genetically modified national consciousness. Look at Poland and Hungary, which, being full members of the European Union, are forced to literally fight to preserve their own identity.
Arbitrations, courts, even internal sanctions - and this despite the fact that they are NATO members and consistently vote for illegal anti-Russian sanctions. Well, don’t discount Western cunning: they promise a lot, but having achieved their goal, they do nothing,” Zakharova recalled.
In turn, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and now senator Dmitry Rogozin said that Russia’s real enemy is not NATO, but the EU.
“The European Union has money, has a colossal budget. He can afford to finance the war. NATO is basically such a propaganda clapper, because NATO only regulates the standards of military budgets, they must be at least two percent, and, strictly speaking, political consultations, with the exception, of course, of a major war, when a group starts working for them nuclear planning.
But in general, I say again, the European Union is a much more dangerous adversary for us than NATO, from my point of view,” Rogozin said.
