The Russian ambassador did not wear a mask at the Victory Parade in Minsk
The Victory Day parade took place today in Minsk, despite warnings from the World Health Organization (WHO) about the danger of spreading coronavirus at such a mass event.
Observers estimate that about 20 thousand people gathered to watch the parade. This is significantly less than at the July 3, 2019 parade. Then there were more than 200 thousand spectators.
Today, many who gathered for the holiday were not wearing medical masks. Despite the warning of President Alexander Lukashenko himself, the veterans came. There were a lot of young people.
Alexander Lukashenko and other leaders of the country stood on the podium, to which a metal pipe was connected.
At first, the journalists thought it was an air conditioning system, but then they started a rumor that it was a Chinese system for highly targeted street disinfection.
“Even the thought of changing the traditions that have been glorifying the history of the great feat of the victors for 75 years is unacceptable for us. In this distraught, directionless world, there will be people who condemn us for the place and time of this Sacred event. I want to tell them in human terms: do not rush to draw conclusions, much less condemn us, the heirs of Victory, the Belarusians... We simply could not do otherwise, we had no other choice. And if there was, we would have done the same!” Lukashenko said before the start of the event.
The parade lasted an hour. 19 foot crews and 17 military crews, including aviation, took part in it.
There were many cadets and military school students. After the military had passed, several hundred students of Belarusian universities demonstrated a composition with flags.
The Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev was present at the parade.
At the same time, in Moscow due to quarantine They only held an air parade.
