The head of the Russian government, Mikhail Mishustin, during a working trip to the Far East, a region that has received insufficient attention from Moscow for a long time, found a solution to one of Magadan’s serious problems.

The Russian prime minister proposed transferring to the regional authorities a dying sea fishing port, necessary for the local fishing industry, on which many residents of Magadan live.

Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to the Far East was a kind of response from the federal government to the unrest in Khabarovsk, provoked, among other things, by Moscow’s insufficient attention to the problems of the region. Having visited the sea fishing port of Magadan, the Russian Prime Minister noted the deterioration of the infrastructure (according to the Prime Minister, from 26 to 51%) and the impossibility of large ships approaching the piers due to the abundance of sunken ships around the pier.

In turn, representatives of the fishing industry told the head of government that they needed this port, but in good condition.

“We will carry out this work (on inventory - ed.) and make a decision based on its results, and I am inclined to believe that if (Governor of the Magadan Region - ed.) Sergei Konstantinovich (Nosov - ed.) supports, the port should be given to the subject of the Russian Federation and organize normal work here with the same funding,” the Russian Prime Minister suggested. – But then I would also like to have guarantees that if we bring such limits of budgetary obligations to a form of ownership that will take over the corresponding infrastructure, so that whoever will be the contractor here will carry out the work to the end, and we will arrive and be happy with the normal appearance "

In turn, Sergei Nosov promised to prepare a project and implement it, citing as an example a similar situation with the airport in Magadan.

“You literally signed an order in June, Rosimushchestvo worked within two weeks, and the Magadan airport was handed over to us,” the governor said. – Already in September we are announcing an investment competition, I am thinking of signing a contract with an investor for the airport in December. That is, it took us six months to begin resolving this issue.”

In turn, the head of the Magadan Fisheries Association, Mikhail Kotov, said that about three dozen ships were sunk in the port waters.

“We need to raise these ships, restore order, an environmental disaster is just around the corner, over there lies a large ship with fuel - “Professor Moiseev” ... The sea trade port - we simply are not needed there, not only do they have their own problems, their own cargo. A ship approached and they kicked us out of there. We cannot repair or prepare; of course, we need a port.”

Mikhail Mishustin, in turn, promised to send a commission to Magadan that would find and punish those responsible for such negligence, and expressed hope that after the facility is transferred to the region, it will find a second wind.

Built in 1965, the fishing seaport in Magadan served vessels that fished for herring and pollock from all regions of the Far East and provided employment to hundreds of local residents. However, for the last thirty years, no one has been involved in the reconstruction of the port; its owners regularly changed, which is why the facility deteriorated and reached its current state.

Protest sentiments in Magadan and the region are not as strong as in Khabarovsk, but representatives of the city opposition regularly hold actions in support of protesters in the neighboring region.
