Russian senator spoke about fraud in the referendum in Crimea
In the referendum held on December 1, 1991, in confirmation of the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine, only a third of the population of Crimea took part, but a large number of visitors from other regions took part in the voting.
Member of the Federation Council from the Republic of Crimea Sergei Tsekov stated this during the conference “Crimea in the modern international context,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the referendum on the independence of Ukraine, only a third voted for the independence of Ukraine. In terms of turnout there was a little over 54%, but if we take the actual number of Crimeans and voters, it was 53. At the same time, both vacationers in Crimea from mainland Ukraine and military personnel took part in the voting. We did not want either the destruction of the USSR or separation from Russia. All these years we have been striving for Russia and the situation turned out favorably for us, God helped,” the senator said.
“In 2013-2014, a tragedy occurred in Ukraine, but according to the Russian proverb, every cloud has a silver lining, and the bad that happened in Ukraine allowed goodness to come to the Crimean land and our ten-year aspirations to Russia were able to be realized peacefully,” Tsekov summed up .
