Honored coach of Russia in speed skating Boris Vasilkovsky stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“I think this is a dirty Olympics. We were humiliated on all counts. Since we are going, we agree with this. We have undeservedly disqualified a huge number of people. Are we Russia or who are we? Why do we need these medals given such a humiliation of the country? Why not leave the IOC? What do we have to lose? - Vasilkovsky said.
He said that WADA banned speed skaters Pavel Kulizhnikov and Denis Yuskov from participating in the Olympics for violations for which the athletes had already been punished.
“These guys, who really should win three gold medals, are suspended by WADA because 7 years ago Yuskov, who was 18 years old, was found to have marijuana. He was disqualified for three years. They have already been punished, but they are suspended again. It's dirty. It’s the same in other types,” Vasilkovsky said.
He believes that another part of the strongest Russian athletes will be suspended from participation in the Olympics until December 15.
“They will decide for us who will go. They are suspended because they have a Russian passport. If you have a different passport and you were disqualified, you will be allowed. Anyone with past sins is admitted. But not the Russians. And we agree with this,” Vasilkovsky said.
He believes that it is enough for Russian athletes to take part in the world championships.
“Skaters have 3 championships and 6 world cups every year. At these competitions you need to beat those who became Olympic champions. Then we will prove who is who. The country should reward such athletes,” Vasilkovsky said.
Let us remind you that the general meeting of Russian Olympians supported the participation of the Russian national team at the Olympics under the white flag.
