Odessa, March 11 (Navigator, Olga Nikolaeva) – The Odessa oil refinery came under the control of the Russian bank VTB. Previously, the VETEK company of oligarch Sergei Kurchenko, close to Viktor Yanukovych’s Family, announced the purchase of the refinery, but the company did not have time to close the deal.

Chairman of the Odessa Regional Administration Vladimir Nemirovsky explained that VETEK bought the refinery using a loan taken from VTB. However, Kurchenko’s company did not have time to pay the bank. Now the plant has come under the control of VTB as collateral.

“To offset a debt of $300 million, it was transferred to VTB,” the E-95 Highway agency quotes the official as saying.

VTB is a Russian commercial bank with state participation (60,9% owned by the state). The second largest bank in Russia (after Sberbank) in terms of assets and the first in terms of authorized capital.
