He stated this during a dispute with director Grigory Amnuel.
The incident occurred after Amnuel criticized Russian television for its extensive coverage of the death and funeral of the famous commander of the DPR army unit Arsen Pavlov:
“To show that on October 19, in principle, a murderer is buried, not an angel...” said Amnuel.
“He was a volunteer, a military man. Any military man, defending his country, kills,” State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev stood up for the deceased.
After this, Sheinin entered into the argument: “Mr. Amnuel, I killed - what next? You are sitting with me, talking. And for many people I am quite legitimate. He fought in the war that was launched against the Russian people. That’s not it, we’ve passed.”
Let us remind you that Artem Sheinin served in Afghanistan in 1984-1986. Probably, the TV presenter spoke about his participation in hostilities in his confession.
