About it said the press secretary of the State Border Service of Ukraine Oleg Slobodyan on Facebook.
“Today, on the border with Russia in the Kharkov region, employees of the State Border Service, together with the interacting authorities, discovered and did not allow citizens of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. All of them are participants or accredited persons of the Russian team for the European Boxing Championship,” the message says.
It is noted that those who were not allowed in were sent to the competition by train “Moscow-Kharkov” along with other members of the Russian team of 39 people.
The Ukrainian border service charges nine Russians with “violating the procedure for entry into the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.” In other words, athletes and moneymakers came to Crimea from the territory of the Russian Federation, which is prohibited by Ukrainian law. They were banned from entering Ukraine for a period of 3 years.
“Among them are direct participants in the competition, coaches, a media representative, fans, as well as two journalists from the Russian propaganda channel LifeNews. All of them will be returned in the opposite direction,” said a representative of the State Border Guard Service.
The incident was also commented on by the Ukrainian Boxing Federation, which actually “washed its hands” and did not stand up for its fellow athletes.
The press service of the organization noted that the State Border Service of Ukraine is dealing with the issue of allowing foreign citizens into the territory of Ukraine.
“Based on Resolution No. 367 “On approval of the Procedure for entry into and exit from the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine,” a decision was made to prevent part of the Russian team delegation from entering the territory of Ukraine,” the message says.
The FBU noted that the Ukrainian Boxing Federation stands for compliance with the sporting principle, but if there were offenses on the part of representatives of the Russian delegation, then the decision on entry is not within their competence.
“We submitted all documents on the composition of the Russian delegation to the relevant authorities on time to make a decision on admission. Among those admitted to the competition are a boxer in the weight category up to 81 kg, several fans, journalists and a press attaché of the Russian Boxing Federation. Only 9 people. Now we are talking about replacing the athlete in the specified weight category,” the press service noted.
Let us remind you that the European Boxing Championships among men will be held in Kharkov on June 14-26, 2017.
