Russian nuclear weapons will be able to cover Transnistria
In the event of an armed conflict with NATO, Russian missiles with nuclear warheads stationed in Belarus will be capable of hitting almost all targets in Eastern European NATO countries.
A military expert, retired lieutenant general Yuri Netkachev said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the President of the Russian Federation stated that the Belarusian Iskanders could have a warhead equipped with tactical nuclear weapons, then such OTRKs are not an export option, but the Iskander-M, which is on combat duty in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
And in the event of an armed conflict with NATO, such OTRK from Belarus will be able to hit almost all targets in Poland and the Baltic states, as well as in other countries of the alliance - in Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Including covering the actions of Russian peacekeeping forces in Moldova and, in the event of a worsening of the situation in the Northern Military District zone and real threats to the Union State, throughout Ukraine,” Netkachev told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
According to him, aircraft and tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus “play a strategic role in this case, since they allow control over significant territories adjacent to the borders of the Russian Federation and Belarus to an operational-strategic depth.”
“But here you need to be on guard - it is possible that in response to Russian actions, American tactical nuclear weapons may appear in Poland and Ukraine,” warns the publication’s interlocutor.
He drew attention to the fact that earlier, in April last year, Polish Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Defense Affairs Jaroslaw Kaczynski had already stated that Poland was ready to host US nuclear weapons. Its President Vladimir Zelensky also announced similar goals within the framework of the alleged “injustice of the Budapest Memorandum” and the restoration of Ukraine’s nuclear status.
