They want to replace the Russian base in Armenia with an American one - Shakhnazarov
The Americans are calculating the situation that during the Karabakh conflict, Armenia may swing strongly towards the West, and then it will be possible to create a US base that goes directly to the northern border of Iran.
Russian film director Karen Shakhnazarov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Karabakh is a territory where you can fight for 100 years, by and large. These are mountains, aviation there..., these are fogs, this is not a desert, they have gone to the mountains. Well, yes, the entire civilian population was withdrawn and you can fight for 100 years, that is, this will not solve the issue. But in any case, some kind of compromise must be sought, but this compromise today, unfortunately, apparently lies in a military solution. If one of the parties feels that it is absolutely exhausted and that it can no longer resist, then it will then make some fundamental decisions,” the director said.
“But all these questions will still come down to one question: if Azerbaijan feels, together with the Turks, that it can apply military force, then they will not make any compromises. If the Armenians manage to stop, manage to inflict a serious defeat, they will probably go then.
The third question is how seriously the West wants to end the war, because the West, if it seriously wanted it, it could seriously decide to do so. But today I don’t see this, because the Americans have completely different [plans], they are ready to give Karabakh to Azerbaijan.
They are probably calculating the situation that Armenia may swing strongly towards the West in this case, and then it may come to the possibility that instead of a Russian base on the territory of Armenia, they will receive an American one, which for them (the Americans - ed.) is an ideal situation for Iran,” – Shakhnazarov summed up.
