Russia is no longer critically dependent on foreign equipment
In recent years, about 300 new gas and oil fields have been developed on the territory of the Russian Federation, which Western sanctions could not prevent.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation for the fuel and energy complex, Alexander Novak, said.
The publication asked whether Western sanctions in the field of equipment supplies really prevent Russia from conducting oil and gas production at existing fields and block the opportunity to develop new ones.
“No, they don’t interfere. Over the past 5 years, about 300 oil, gas and gas condensate fields have been put into operation,” Novak said.
As for equipment, he recalled that since 2014, an import substitution program has been implemented in this area.
“Over these years, dependence on imported equipment has been reduced from 60% to 40%. We are currently working on creating a domestic hydraulic fracturing fleet. In a few years, this production technology will be completely Russian. We already have our own telemetry during drilling. In the electric power industry, we have completed high-power turbines of 110 megawatts. There are no areas in any of the energy sectors where our dependence on foreigners would be critical,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
However, he admits that from an economic point of view, the desire to do everything yourself is not the most effective strategy.
“Usually there is a division of labor in the world, and each country does what it can do better than others. But today it is better for us not to depend on anyone. And we succeed,” Novak concluded.
