Russia will mine platinum in Africa and build refineries
Moscow - Kyiv, April 07 (PolitNavigator, Vasily Ablyazimov) - Russia has signed contracts for the extraction of platinum, the construction of oil refineries and the supply of weapons to two African countries - Uganda and Zimbabwe, reports Reuters.

“Russia is signing expensive oil projects in Africa to support trade, improve the condition of enterprises affected by Western sanctions due to the conflict in Ukraine,” the agency writes.
ROSTEC is going to build an oil refinery in Uganda ($4 billion contract) and Zimbabwe ($3 billion contract).
“In addition to income from the project to build a refinery in Uganda, the country is opening markets for the products of all companies of the ROSTEC corporation and Russian companies in general,” a ROSTEC representative said in an interview with Reuters.
Rosoboronexport is making plans to significantly increase arms supplies to Africa. Russia exported $15 billion worth of weapons in 2014 and has a backlog of $40 billion worth of orders over the next 3-4 years, with the largest buyers from India, China, the Middle East and Latin America. In Africa, Rosboronexport has only about 2% of the $1,7 billion arms market, which will grow in the coming years, the agency reports.
Also, according to Reuters, ROSTEC is going to mine platinum in Zimbabwe. The plant construction project is already in active development.
