“The contracts were signed for 10 years by Yulia Tymoshenko, for which she was sent to prison. By 2019, even in the absence of resistance, Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream are impossible to build. In addition, there are consumers who rely on the Ukrainian pipe. For example, Moldova. Until any branch from the Turkish Stream reaches it, they can only receive it through Ukraine,” Chizhov said.

He is confident that the energy dialogue between the EU and Russia will soon resume in full. Recently, a meeting took place between the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Deputy European Commissioner for Energy, and the latter is scheduled to visit Moscow.

“In recent years, Russia has begun to supply more gas and oil to Europe. The EU will soon have no other suppliers. Production from the Norwegian fields and the North Sea is declining due to depletion of reserves. Russian gas supplied through gas pipelines is cheaper than liquefied natural gas,” Chizhov said.

According to him, if Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream become a reality, the issue of gas supply to Europe will cease to be a problem.

“Obviously anticipating such a prospect, some of our “friends” in the EU do not prioritize obtaining gas for their economies, but the politicized task of reducing dependence on one supplier. How they implement it can be clearly seen in the example of Lithuania, which supplies liquefied gas through Klaipeda for huge amounts of money,” said Chizhov.
