President of Moldova Igor Dodon expressed confidence that he will be able to achieve concessions from Gazprom and will help the pro-European government of Maia Sandu solve the problem of energy supply.

“We will help them, the government. For example, with gas. We could, based on the so-called separation of powers, say: handle it yourself. They couldn't handle it. But I understood that this issue is very important for the population, and therefore I said: let me help.

I went to Moscow to meet only with Kozak and Miller, with whom I sat down and began to negotiate on gas. I will solve this problem because it concerns all citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” Dodon said.

Previously, he stated that he intended to obtain from the Russian monopolist a discount on gas from September 1, 2019 to January 1, 2020. This will allow the government not to increase gas prices for the population.

It is interesting that Sandu refused the offer of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to visit Moscow, citing being busy. At the same time, the Moldovan Prime Minister visited Brussels, Berlin, Bucharest and Kyiv.

Let us note that for all his attempts to achieve economic preferences from Russia, Dodon is in no hurry to abandon evasive rhetoric in the field of geopolitics.

Thus, he stated that Moldovan socialists are not pro-Russian or pro-Western, but pro-Moldavian and advocate the simultaneous development of relations with both the East and the West.

Dodon also put forward the thesis about “the neutrality of Moldova like Turkmenistan” (Turkmenistan is maximally isolated from the CIS institutions).

He also does not consider it necessary to withdraw from the Association Agreement with the EU.

“All agreements remain: with Europe, the Eurasian Economic Community, the CIS - we will be friends with everyone,” Dodon said after the parliamentary elections.
