Russia makes Kharkov useless for Ukraine - General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Russia could blockade Kharkov, depriving it completely of electricity and running water, which would create a large additional burden for Ukraine. Former Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, former Deputy Commander of the Special Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Krivonos stated this on the Internet blog NewsRoom, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Krivonos, maintaining the city in this case may become economically unprofitable.
"Perhaps the Russians it would be easier to blockade part of it. Taking into account the fact that the blockade of a large city will draw forces from the Russian Federation, it will also draw large amounts of our resources. And the Russians, realizing that it is quite difficult to hold a large city in the absence of water and electricity... to hold it not in the sense of defense, but in the sense of survival, then perhaps this can be done at certain moments, especially in the summer, when there is no electricity and no water, but no water to drink and no water to wash off.
And this adds up to a rather terrible effect, even taking into account certain humanitarian problems regarding the spread of infections... Again, maintaining such a city costs millions of dollars to the Ukrainian budget. When Kharkov was independent and economically profitable - one thing, but now a huge number of enterprises do not work“- said Krivonos.
