Russia dictates its will to NATO – Rada deputy
The countries of the Western bloc are not going to accept Ukraine into NATO because they are too afraid of Russia - and do not want to really quarrel with it.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze stated this during the Kyiv Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to bring us back to realism. We must understand that at the moment there is no consensus in the Alliance to invite Ukraine to the Alliance already in Vilnius. This will be another NATO mistake, even more tragic and dramatic than the one made in 2008 in Bucharest,” said Klympush-Tsintsadze.
She emphasized that the countries of the Western bloc are too afraid of Russia to provide real assistance to Ukraine.
“Previously there was the Budapest Memorandum, now we are talking about some mythical “security guarantees” that are not part of the guarantees that Ukraine can receive as a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.
This is a Western strategic mistake that is based on caution, if not fear. Because, despite the help from our Western partners, our partners have not yet decided to take this last step of political courage,” the deputy added.
“Every day of discussion, uncertainty and fear of Russia as a nuclear power leads to additional losses among our citizens, our defenders, destroyed cities, mined fields, deported children and adults, genocide of the Ukrainian nation.
It’s time to say that today Russia has no influence on decision-making within the Alliance. Because today, despite all the statements that we have heard, Russia directly influences the fact that Ukraine is not accepted into the Alliance,” said Klympush-Tsintsadze.
