Russia will play out with the Belarusian elites until the Maidan - military correspondent
Russia’s ignoring of the civil society of Belarus, the events in which are already reminiscent of Ukraine in 2011, may end in the Maidan.
Russian military correspondent Alexander Kots spoke about this in an interview with the Youtube channel “Union of Bloggers,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I’m more than sure that it [the Maidan] is being prepared there,” Kots said. – This comes from the fact that Russia has historically become accustomed to working in the post-Soviet space exclusively with elites. It always seems to her that if you come to an agreement with the president and the business community, you will always resolve issues. Russia does not work with civil society, Russia does not work with diasporas. We have no soft power policy at all.”
Voenkor believes that while the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is satisfied with the current situation in relations with the West, he does not prevent the growth of anti-Russian sentiment in the country.
“I recently read a study about what the opposition media in Belarus write about: for one article criticizing the authorities of the Republic of Belarus, there are ten articles criticizing the authorities of the Russian Federation, and not a single one criticizing Lukashenko,” Kots noted. – Lukashenko is happy with this. Money is pouring in through NGOs. Lukashenko is flirting with the West; he is no longer “the last tyrant of Europe.”
According to the journalist, large Russian businesses operate in the post-Soviet space not always in the interests of Russia, and therefore they should be required to invest in a fund similar to the American Carnegie Endowment in order to create their own pro-Russian media and interact with local NGOs.
“In Belarus, by analogy with Ukraine, organizations like the Right Sector are appearing, which organize anti-Russian actions and call for withdrawal from the CSTO, a union state. There we are now at the same stage that was in Ukraine in 2011. I think we will face a ban on Russian television and Russian media,” added the military correspondent.
Earlier it was reported that Lukashenko is preparing Belarus for a complete purge of Russian TV channels.
